Overall, I feel as though I had an amazing experience with Drive Well Driving School and totally recommend it. Prior to signing up for lessons, I had little to no driving experience and was extremely nervous behind the wheel, but after completing 4 one-hour lessons with Ms. Laquisha, I was able to become more confident in my ability to drive and even passed my road skills test first try. I genuinely couldn’t have done it without Ms. Laquisha’s help, as she is one of the most patient, kind-hearted, and encouraging instructors you could ask for. I couldn’t have done it without her and will be forever grateful towards the Drive Well Driving School. Thank youu!

Excellent Driving School, patient and impressive teachers who get you feeling confident and ready to drive
The biggest reason families choose us

Skip the DMV road test entirely

As a Virginia DMV certified Class B driving school, we give the final road skills exam ourselves. When your student finishes the program, we issue the certificate. You walk into the DMV with paperwork instead of waiting weeks for a road test appointment at the Leesburg office.

For teens, we issue the DTS-B certificate. For adults 21 and older, the DTS-D does the same thing and also removes the 60-day permit holding period.

A note about Driver Privilege Cards

If you hold a Driver Privilege Card rather than a standard learner's permit, the DTS road test waiver may not apply to your situation. Call us at 703-817-5047 before enrolling so we can tell you straight rather than taking your money and figuring it out later.

Real roads, real training

Why we train in Purcellville specifically

Western Loudoun drives differently from Ashburn or Sterling. The roads are narrower, the speed changes are sharper, and a student who cannot handle the Route 7 and 287 interchange or a left turn off Main Street at 5 PM is not ready for a license.

Our lessons work the roads you will actually drive: Main Street through downtown, Hatcher Avenue, Nursery Avenue, the Route 7 bypass ramps, Berlin Turnpike toward Lovettsville, and the two-lane country roads toward Hamilton and Round Hill where deer and farm equipment share the road.

New law takes effect January 1, 2027

Ages 18 to 20: Virginia now requires driver education

Starting January 1, 2027, every first-time license applicant between 18 and 20 must hold a learner's permit for 90 days and complete a state-approved driver education program. Both requirements together, not either one.

Two things to know. If you finish before December 31, 2026, the requirement never applies to you. And classroom hours alone do not satisfy it, because Virginia defines a complete driver education program as classroom plus behind the wheel plus a road skills exam. The $525 adult bundle is the program that meets this requirement.

If you are 21 or older, nothing changes for you. You still hold the permit 60 days or complete driver education, and our DTS-D certificate handles it.

How it works

Getting started in Purcellville

  1. Get the learner's permit at the DMV. The closest office is the Leesburg DMV on Catoctin Circle. Bring your documents and pass the knowledge exam.
  2. Register with us online or call 703-817-5047. Tell us your pickup address or which school. We send a schedule and you confirm the times before paying anything.
  3. Seven in-car sessions on real Purcellville roads. Same instructor every session. We build from neighborhood streets to Route 7 traffic as confidence grows.
  4. Take the road skills exam with your instructor. No trip to the DMV for the driving test. We issue the certificate on the spot.
  5. Bring the certificate to the DMV and walk out licensed. That is the entire process.

Ready to get started?

Most Purcellville families can start within a week during the school year. Summer books two to three weeks out.

Frequently asked questions

What Purcellville families ask before signing up

If your question is not here, call 703-817-5047 and ask a person.

Do you pick up from Loudoun Valley and Woodgrove?

Yes, both schools. Loudoun Valley High School at 340 North Maple Avenue and Woodgrove High School at 36811 Allder School Road are the two most common pickups we run in the Purcellville area. Your student walks out at dismissal, the instructor is right there, and the lesson starts before they would have gotten home. We also pick up from home anywhere in Purcellville, Hamilton, and Round Hill.

Does my teen actually skip the DMV road test?

Yes. We conduct the road skills exam at the end of the seven-session program and issue the DTS-B certificate. You bring that to the DMV along with the rest of the paperwork, and they issue the license. No waiting for a DMV road test appointment at the Leesburg office.

How much does behind the wheel cost in Purcellville?

$375 for teens, $390 for adults. Both include seven in-car sessions of about 50 minutes each and the final road skills exam. Private lessons start at $85 an hour if you just need a few sessions. The adult bundle with classroom driver education included is $525. Everything is on the pricing page.

Does my student need the learner's permit before the first lesson?

Yes. Virginia law requires a valid learner's permit before anyone can get behind the wheel with an instructor. You apply in person at a Virginia DMV customer service center. The closest one to Purcellville is the Leesburg office on Catoctin Circle. If the permit knowledge test has been failed three times, our permit re-examination course unlocks the next attempt.

How soon can we start lessons?

Depends on the season. From September through the spring the calendar is wide open and we can usually start within a week. Through the summer we are booked two to three weeks out. Call and we will give you the real next opening rather than a guess.

Which roads do you actually train on near Purcellville?

Main Street through downtown, Hatcher Avenue, Nursery Avenue, Maple Avenue, the Route 7 bypass ramps, the Route 7 and 287 interchange, Berlin Turnpike heading toward Lovettsville, and the two-lane roads toward Hamilton and Round Hill. We start on quieter residential streets and work up to Route 7 speed once the basics are solid.

I am an adult who never learned to drive. Is this awkward?

Not at all. Adults who moved here from another country, parents who relied on someone else, people who had a bad experience years ago and stopped. It is a real part of our business and it is more common than you think. Same seven sessions at whatever pace makes sense, and the DTS-D certificate at the end means you skip the DMV road test too.

My child turns 18 in 2027. Does the new Virginia law affect us?

It might. Starting January 1, 2027, every first-time license applicant between 18 and 20 must hold a permit for 90 days and complete a full driver education program. Both requirements together. If the license is issued before December 31, 2026, the requirement does not apply. If it will be after, classroom hours alone are not enough. The $525 adult bundle is the program that meets the new requirement.

Can the classroom driver education part be done online?

Yes. Our online driver's education course covers Virginia's classroom requirement and you take it at home on your own schedule. Purcellville is inside our service area for this course because the final road skills exam still happens in person with an instructor.

Will the same instructor teach every lesson?

Yes. One instructor for the full program rather than a different person each week. That matters because your instructor learns exactly what your student is working on and builds each session off the last one. If you have a language preference, tell us when you book. Our team covers English, Urdu, and Punjabi.

I failed the road test three times. Can you help?

Yes. After three failures the Virginia DMV requires additional training before you can test again. Our road test re-examination program is built for exactly this. Call us and we will explain what the DMV is asking for in your specific case.

Is there a driving school office in Purcellville?

Our office is in Sterling at 44330 Mercure Circle, about 20 minutes east of Purcellville. But every lesson starts at your location, not ours. Our instructors are in western Loudoun regularly, picking up from Valley, Woodgrove, and homes throughout Purcellville, Hamilton, and Round Hill.
